Affectionately (and unofficially) known as “Whoogle”, I was asked to develop a searchable online database that could be managed by producers at Heart and searched by listeners who wanted to try and win £60,000!
The database had to count how many times a celebrity had been guessed and also had to be able to serve users who perhaps didn’t know a celebrity’s real full name (eg. ‘Madonna’, ‘Elton John’, etc) or only knew a nickname or pseudonym (eg. “MJ” would return ‘Michael Jackson’).
The project took approximately 4 weeks to produce, and was used heavily for 5 weeks. During those 5 weeks it saw over 1200 celebrities added to the database, and over 3.6million guesses were made by listeners, at a rate of approximately 4000 an hour.
