He started the idea simply on his twitter feed.
In 2011 fellow colleague Neil Bentley saw that there was more potential, and he developed the concept with Toby into a one page static HTML5 website.
However Toby wanted to be able to archive the data so people could look back at past quarters and see how a station has done. So, as the pair knew I had extensive PHP/MySQL knowledge they asked me to develop it.
Six months later, on 17th May 2012 we launched RajarSmilies.com V3. It’s built using WordPress, and custom post types, taxonomies, meta data, and a variety of clever scripts to make it easy for the end user, but just as importantly make it easy for Toby to input and edit data.
Version 3 includes station detail pages, so you can see how a station has done. We collected the twitter details, web address, and logo of each station. We used the twitter details to tweet out to each station asking them if they’ve seen the page today? On the 17th May (release date), we hit just shy of 2000 page views. With over 300 Unique visitors.
The attached video will show you a little more about how it’s made and it’s functionality.
At the end of 2013 I upgrade the site, gave it a little design tweak and sped up the development process with Bootstrap 3 and FontAwesome. We now have an automatic embargo function that I developed so that data can be inputted prior to the embargo being lifted but only being displayed publicly at a minute after midnight![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
